And you thought you knew "cold"

In honour of finally giving in and wearing my winter coat for the first time, I thought I'd try to put it into perspective by reminding myself what "cold" really looks like! This is a picture of Niagara Falls completely frozen in 1911. Can you imagine how cold it had to be?! Makes me shiver just looking at it!

I remember my first full winter here. That was a new kind of cold for me, as a Floridian. And who did I have to whine to? A natural-born stoic *and* a Siberian!!! *sigh*

I'll have to bookmark this for my whiny days this year.

Did anyone try to ride *that* in a barrel? :-D

Stupid me left my coat in the car this morning. I figured I'd just be running from the parking lot into school, not very far at all. What did we have this morning? A freakin' fire drill, thank you very much. I stood outside w/my coffee freezing!

I pulled out my winter coat yesterday. I have ear covers in a pocket. The gloves appeared 3 days ago. The extra sweater, well, I'm hardly ever without an extra sweater. I've not yet donned a winter hat though.

I am much more tolerant of cold weather than I used to be. Really, I am.

GF, BRAT! ;)

CrackeLilo, you come whine anytime you want to...I may be part Canadian, but believe me when I say that I feel your pain!

Sassy Sassy Sassy...
so Miss Teacher, what have we learned from this experience? (Hint: it's not to find out about the fire drills in advance!)

Only D, yeah yeah keep telling yourself that! ;)
PS that's one of the things that scares me about moving to Chicago--the weather!

UnB, spoken like a true Texan! :)

Deb, and we wonder why drinking and sex are the given pasttimes in subzero weather! :D

My last semester of college, I took winter camping to complete my PE requirement. We went in early March. Our camp guide advised me to keep my water bottle in my sleeping bag over night so it wouldn't freeze. I followed orders, but my water froze anyway. I've never been more cold in all my life.

The coldest day I've every exprienced was an awful Januray day in Milwaukee... I think the raw temp was -23 F, and the wind chill was estimated at -80 F. It hurt to breath.

As ever, we can't decide which season we want to pretend it is down here in Lousyana. *sigh* At least they know what season it is in England!

It's not too cold during the day here. I usually get away with wearing a wooly jumper or a gilet.
Night time is a different story though! We have that bone-biting damp to contend with! Also we have no central heating in our house, so I have taken to wearing a puffa-jacket in bed! How sexy is that image?! :)

Great Niagara pic!
